Shopping in Italy.
Today's lesson is the shopping block — clothes and sizes (taglia for fits, numero for shoes), colours (-o for masculine, -a for feminine, three invariables), buying and returning under EU 14-day rules, and the open-air mercato where touching the produce is mildly rude.
Pick a lesson to start
01Clothes & sizes
Cerco una maglietta. Italian taglia 46 ≈ Indian medium. Numero 42 ≈ Indian shoe size 8.
02Colours
Masculine -o, feminine -a. Three invariables: verde, blu, marrone. Match the ending.
03Buying & returning
Vorrei comprare questo. EU 14-day return rule. Saldi vs offerta vs sconto.
04At the mercato
Mezzo chilo di pomodori. Don't touch the produce. The friendliest place to practise.
Italian markets don't negotiate
Mercato (market) prices are fixed — don't try to negotiate like at an Indian bazaar. Just point and say 'quello per favore' (that one please). The vendor will weigh produce and tell you the price. Bring exact change when possible. Markets are usually mornings only, Monday–Saturday.
