Common questions

Common questions about Italy scholarships

  • What's the difference between DSU and ER.GO?
Both are regional scholarship bodies in Italy. DSU (Diritto allo Studio Universitario) is the generic name; ER.GO is specifically the Emilia-Romagna body (covering Bologna, Modena, Parma). Different Italian regions have their own DSU equivalents with slightly different rules.
  • How does ISEE Parificato work for Indian families?
ISEE Parificato is the income assessment used by Italian universities and regional bodies to set tuition tiers. For Indian families, it requires translated and apostilled income documents (ITR, salary certificates, property statements). A CAF in Italy or a recognised Indian intermediary processes the assessment. Our scholarships page explains the documents needed.
  • Do I need to apply for scholarships separately from university admission?
Yes, almost always. University admission and scholarship application are two separate processes with separate deadlines. Many regional scholarships have application windows in summer (July–August) for the following academic year. Miss these and you cannot back-date.
  • What is the timeline for Italy scholarships from India?
Plan 6–9 months ahead. Typical sequence: October–December (research scholarship routes), January–March (gather and translate income documents), April–June (apply), July–August (regional scholarship windows), September (results). We list the major routes with timelines on our Scholarships page.
  • Can I get 100% scholarship for studying in Italy?
Possible but rare. Combinations of tuition waiver + regional DSU + accommodation + stipend can reach the equivalent of full coverage for high-merit + low-income applicants. We do not promise outcomes. The honest framing: Italy is unusually affordable for Indian students compared to UK / US / Australia, even without 100% coverage.
